The March family are custodians to the unique and historic Heathvale Estate vineyard in the Eden Valley. First planted to vines in the late 1800’s, Trevor, Faye and their family have worked assiduously to replant the vineyard to Riesling, Shiraz, Cabernet, Sagrantino and young Tempranillo. The Shiraz plantings now comprise a range of clones, four of which have been grafted from material selected from 100 hundred year - old vineyards still in production in the Eden and Barossa Valleys. Along with Riesling, Shiraz is a stalwart variety of the Eden Valley producing exceptional wines characterized by powerful aromatics, elegance and complexity. Often black – fruited, Eden Valley Shiraz typically also shows spice, herbal complexity and very fine, savoury tannins.

We are extremely lucky and privileged to be able to source a small 1.3 T parcel of Shiraz which includes some of the “old clones” material. Fruit was hand – picked on March 24 and crushed / de-stemmed into a small open stainless - steel fermenter. The must was cold soaked at 12 – 15°C with daily juice pump - overs for three days until fermentation commenced. The ferment was then allowed to warm up to a maximum of 30°C with juice pump–over three times daily to extract flavour, colour and tannins. After 12 days on skins, the wine was pressed, settled and racked to new and seasoned 225 litre French oak barrels where it completed malolactic fermentation. The wine was racked off lees, sulfured and returned to barrel for 30 months prior to final blending and bottling.
